How to clean your fridge

The refrigerator is the second most important article in a person’s kitchen. Although the microwave seems to be more useful, the fridge is actually more abused. Every day of our lives we open it to check if it still has something we can munch on. Then we slam its doors like some drunkard. Despite these, refrigerators are almost always neglected. They are left damp, dirty, and smelling terrible. This should not be so for they are places where we store our food. Thus, it is a must to keep it clean and smelling good all the time. Below are the steps to clean your fridge.

Turn off the temp-control knob

You can’t start cleaning your fridge while it is still on. Thus, the first step is to turn off the temperature control knob. You may start the cleaning after the power supply is cut off. And do not forget that if your fridge has a drip pan, remove it and have it cleaned as well.

Empty your fridge

After turning the temperature off, it is now time to remove everything inside the fridge. These things can hinder from getting the appliance thoroughly cleaned. In addition, by taking everything out you will see which ones need to be returned as well as those that may be thrown away.

Throw out

After seeing which items are already spoiled, moldy or smelly should be dispose off. By doing so, you decrease the bad smell of your fridge, more importantly, the risk of getting illnesses from mildew, molds, and bacteria.

Take all removable parts out

All refs have parts which may be removed. These parts are meant to be cleaned separately from the unit itself. Thus, when you clean your fridge, it is necessary to remove these parts and wash it before it s re-installed to the fridge.

Wipe the fridge clean

The unit runs with electricity, thus washing is not plausible. Get a towel, dip it into soapy water and wipe the machine clean. This is the only way you can get the entire unit clean. Do not hesitate to do your best in wiping all dirt and mess away. This can get the unit sparkly and smelling clean.

Rinse

After washing the entire unit with the soapy cloth, the next step is to rinse the machine. However, the machine is not allowed to get wet. Therefore, resort to old rags and clothes again and wipe the soap away. Dip the new rag into water and use it to rinse your fridge.

Put them all back

After you separated almost everything into the fridge, it is now time to return them. Replace all shelves you removed earlier. Make sure they are properly positioned before putting back in all the earlier contents. You wouldn’t want to meet any kind of spill after having just cleaned everything.

Return and deodorize

After you have chosen which foods may still be kept then eaten, put it back into the fridge. However, do not just return it. Make sure you segregate it in accordance to the indicators on the fridge. By doing this, you will be decreasing the possibility for immediate spoilage. Furthermore, place deodorizers into the fridge. This can make the machine lighter.
